Eddie Hiemenz

I had a chance to talk with Eddie and Marcy Hiemenz today!  Eddie's recovering from a bout with cancer, but seems fine now.  He's back playing the squeezebox, accordian, and harmonica, and it's wonderful to watch and hear.
(Eddie is related thru the Sand family--his mom was grandma's sister, Angelica, who married Joseph Hiemenz in 1907).
I asked him about WHERE in Buckman Mueller's store was, and he said it was on the east side of 25, facing west.  The Hesch Drygoods store was near the south corner, then, I think, another house, then Schmolkes THEN the Mueller Store.  It would have been where the post office and Britz's Store was in the 70s.
(Still, why does the land go DOWN on the wrong side of the saloon, in the picture?)

OK, Bob and Sue--I was WRONG....lol 

The John Hesch racket shop (five and dime) store was just south of the Schmolke house.  After John died in 1926, Ket's brothers bought it and opened Mueller's Bar there, "with a lean-to addition on the north side seen in later pictures"--like on  Google Earth.  What's left of the house is around back.  Eddie was right because we were talking about two different places!
