Two things from Larry

Larry's Portugese family left the Azores and sailed to Hawaii in 1883.  This account is from the San Francisco Chronicle, since SF was the Suffolk's next port-of-call. It's considerably more harrowing than anything the Heschs endured, but as Larry says, they survived and eventually prospered.
I just wanted to show you another (non-German/Austrian/Polish) immigrant saga, and the conditions they had to endure compared to our ancestors.  Whew!

And here's something milder--a story from the Atlanta newspaper in 1911 (one hundred years ago!)  This was the south, about 40 years after the war between the states, but it was certainly a message boys got well into the 60s and 70s.  And, isn't it a bit creepy to expect a kid to "smile when he feels the tears coming"?  But then, most kids aren't as reasonable as little Bobby ends up being here...lol
Thanks, Larry!
