This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

Vedute Collection

If you have a little time and you'd like to see some early pictures of the cities we've mentioned here (plus many others), go to CESKEARCHIVY and click "Verdute Collection of the SRA in Trebon".

When you get to the page, you'll see a description in Czech, headed by this thumbnail:

Click it there, and browse 1,929 etchings and illustrations from books owned by the Archives. The picture above is of 1810 Prague --it's stylized, for sure, but indicative of how they wanted their city viewed by the rest of the world.

They're breathtaking!
