This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

More about Buckman Mercantile

An article from the end of 1930...was this the Mueller building that Hartmanns were renting, or was it the store they built after the 1927 fire?  LOL..we need to hear from Anon!

(Any guesses about who found this article? ☺ )

May 21st--Anon says "Herb Hartmann rented [Muellers] the summer and fall of 1927. By winter his store was completed and he was back in it. So, the robbery took place in the new store, later to be Britz Market, that is by 1947, when Herb's dad, John bought the place".
THANKS, Anon!! ☺

Ted and Mary

Again, I don't know whose album this photo came from--probably Louise's tho. I think Mary is Holka (Tetiva) Hesch, but Ted looks a tad skinny...wait! this is probably Tader, her nephew, one of the twins, I bet. He looks about 15? Then it's 1930. Too bad they couldn't photoshop that kickstand out...lol Still, the pic gives us a pretty good idea of a farm, in Minnesota, back then.

Later:
Wow--remember the pole Mary was standing under in yesterday's picture? It was a BIRDHOUSE pole!

To clean a birdhouse like that, or to repair it, you'd need to get it down. The easiest way would be if there was a hinge or pivot point about 6 feet up the pole. The rope she tied to it would be there to pull it upright again.
Ha! Mary decided to get that birdhouse down!
lol...WOW!

Later x2: Larry found this...lol It's probably a purple martin house:
They eat mosquitoes, too!

Louie and Rose Gottwalt Family

I'm not sure where I got this photo--probably on someone's online family tree. THANKS to whoever that was! For those just dropping in here, this is Grandpa's sister Rose (Hesch) Gottwalt, her husband Louie, and their grown kids.
One of the problems with German genealogy is the repetition of given names--this generation was absolutely peppered with Pauls and Johns, in honor of their Grandpa Paul and Great-grandpa John. I have seven Paul Heschs and five John Heschs so far...lol...not to mention the Paul or John cousins with different last names.

Sue mentioned her problem with Andrews and Josephs in the Suess clan--she has my sympathy!
