Yes, we've featured this before: a booster booklet published in 1936 to promote The Granite City (deal with it). I suppose it was sent out if someone inquired about the town or stopped at city hall. It was probably in the pamphlet rack at the Great Northern, Northern Pacific and the Greyhound depots. It was written as a joint project of the Chamber of Commerce and the WPA Writers Project.
So, why am I mentioning it again? Well, partly cuz it's still interesting and partly cuz I couldn't fit this section into the subject matter last time, but mostly cuz YOU never actually clicked the link or looked at the booklet back then. This is your second chance; it won't kill you to take it.
What tickles me about this list of 10 "features" is how some are still around and important, while some, for instance #7 and #8, are stretches, and #9 mentions a fact about the church that must have horrified people even then. The longest feature, #2, makes much of the Benedictine priests who settled here while the next two items just mention Benedictine and Franciscan nuns' work in passing. Hmm!
