This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

A quick St Cloud quiz

I KNOW how much you love quizzes!  (And yes, prizes for correct answers will be dispersed at the usual generous rate, promise).
1.  Where was this building located originally (way before we were born)?
2.  What was it used for when we were kids?
3.  The photographer was standing in the parking lot of ______ _____ _____ ____.
4.  What famous event happened to this building in 1938? (See Q #1)
5.  It was built in 1902 as the ______ _____.
6.  How thick were its granite walls?
7.  What family story happened exactly where the car in the photo is?

8.  What was this building called?
9.  Did you ever attend an event there?  If so, what?
10. What was it used for mostly, by the 1960s?

BTW, the pic was taken in 1936.  You can see the side of it in Pic #1, so yes, both buildings existed when we were kids ☺.

Three Questions

Yes, these cast iron bugs are strange looking, but it's cuz they were/are used for something unrelated to insect life, so question #1 is
What are they used for?

This charming, slender kid is me at 11 (and yes, I thought that purse was WAY COOL).  We were at a zoo, but it wasn't Little Falls or Duluth.  (I know, only the sibs might be able to answer this one--just look DEEP into the deer's eye.....deeper.....
Question #2 is
Where were we on that particular vacation?
And this is Question #3--Which cousin is this?
(Doncha just LOVE these quizzes?)

This time of year

OK, a quick quiz:  Where do you remember seeing these items when you were a kid?  And, if you were sent to buy them, would this set have been sufficient?

(Extra points given if you still use them and can prove it...lol)

Need a hint?
Over the years, they'd be painted over many times and still be readable...
YAY! We have a winner--my sister Marion remembered using them.  The answer's in the comments.
And yup, you win twice as much as the last puzzle--oh heck, THREE times as much!  THANKS, Neub! ☺
And BTW, if you did need more than 25, they were available.

But what did they look like as ADULTS?

Ok, here's your big chance! If you've been paying attention, you should be able to match A, B, and C with their wedding pictures, right?

I'll even give you hints:
A is Laura and Rodney
B is Alice and Johnny
C is Girlie and George
So, which wedding picture goes with each couple?

How'd ya do?

(I know, I screwed up--taking the quiz myself, I realized I didn't have ALL the right pictures, so I had to go back and add #4...lol This makes it a trick quiz).

Here's another picture taken the same day as A, B, and C in 1962 in Sleepy Eye, at Laura's house. It might have been Thanksgiving, cuz the film only got developed after Christmas, see?

Oh, and yeah, I think it was a 1960 Plymouth Fury-woohoo!
