This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

Familiar names from southern Sudetenland of Bohemia

When we first actually found the HESCH name in the church books of Horni Pena and Jindrichuv Hradec and Cimer, I started lists of names I found in each village, because so many were familiar from Morrison County and the area.

Some of them are:
POPP
MARSHIK
HEROLD
SCHIRMER
MULLER
FREITAG
RAUSCH
TRACHOFSKY
FIEDLER
NOWOTNY
BEDNAR
JAMA
PYCHA
TOMASEK

Then there are others that maybe only seem familiar:

WOLF
SCHNEIDER
MARZINI
SCHWARTZ
STANGEL
DEUTSCH
HOFFMANN
HOFMANN
HIRSCH
HOFFBAUER
NEUBAUER
BLASCHKO
BINDER
TRAXLER
RUDOLPH
KASPAREK
AMBROSCH
POTSCH
WAGNER

If there's any interest, I'll post my lists--they're not complete by any means, but since I/we know the books pretty well by now, I'd be able to say if the name you're looking for appears there.
