This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

BUCKMAN CONNECTIONS

Master Researcher Larry finds the BEST stuff online, like a Google-digitized book called "A History of Morrison and Todd Counties, Minnesota" by Clara Fuller, published in 1915. One fun feature of the book is flowery, detailed biographies of "prominent" people (who paid to be included) from both counties. Buckman and Pierz folks are there, but none that're related...lol Still, some of the names are familiar, and I thought it'd be fun to see if I can establish a connection...somehow.

So, our first "Buckman connection" is Peter Viehauser. Why? Cuz I spotted a really familiar name of a man who married one of Pete's sisters. Besides, the name Viehauser is familiar to me from Stearns Co, specifically, Holdingford. My kids had a beloved teacher named Betty Viehauser who'd "married-in" to that family. Anyway, see if YOU can spot the connection:
Yup, "Bartol Muyres". That would've been Aunt Eileen's parents. (Eileen Muyres married dad's brother Math. Their kids were Carol and Bev). BTW, Muyres is a Dutch name, from Holland.
See? Connections!

  1. Came across this post while doing some Viehauser research. Interesting blog. I will have to do some more reading. Peter Viehauser was my mom's uncle and Eileen Muyres Hesch Paulson is my mom's cousin. sadly, beautiful Betty Viehauser passed away last summer. :-(

  2. Wow, thanks for writing! Aunt Eileen lives in the apartments at Good Shepherd in Sauk Rapids. She's 93 and still sharp as a tack!
Whenever I saw Betty over the years, we'd talk as fast as we could, laughing and catching up. She was a gem. How lucky you are to be related to both of them--it bodes well for your own longevity, for sure...!
