This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

Frau Hesch c. 1945

One of the problems of having the whole internet at our fingertips to research is that sometimes, info gets saved but then gets separated from it's source.

I think Larry found this photo a good year ago--it was labeled in German, and I think the city was Berlin, but neither of us can remember.  Was it from a magazine, or an online book?  Are those American troops behind her?
She looks maybe 70 there, and if this was 1945, she would have been born around 1875.  It's so strange to feel curiousity and sympathy, and to care about what happened to her...she made it through the bombings, the privations and fear of WWII.  Did she have anything left?
