On the wonderful website
STATE REGIONAL ARCHIVES of TREBON, there's something called
Verdute, which must mean Illustrations, since the pictures there are from widely varying sources: atlases, letterheads, history and story books, maps, and probably publicity pamphlets. There are city views of Prague, New Orleans, 'Pariz', Hamburg, Lisbon, Neuhaus, 'Jeruzalem'....pretty much any important city they knew of in the world. The earliest I found was 1611.
The link above will get you to the first page of verdute thumbnails, but here are a few to entice you:
Neuhaus, or Jindrichuv Hradec, about 1830
Prague being invaded in 1611
Neuhaus in 1840--our Heschs would have recognized this, I think....
Another view of Neuhaus
Don't miss crusing thru these. Some are incredibly beautiful, especially when you realize they were hand drawings and most were done to show how idyllic THIS place was!
Most of these are engravings, like our paper money, so, on the original site ifd any particular thing catches your attention it is possible to zoom way up close and get a sense of the incredible detail these national treasures contain.
