This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

Picking cherries in Washington in 1941

I asked Uncle Tony about this picture and he said Grandma Lizzy Hesch and her sister Vernie Wintermeyer went to Washington state with their two daughters Fronie Hesch and Marie Wintermeyer.  They took the train to visit Lizzy and Vernie's brother Charlie, who owned an orchard in Wenatchee, Wa.

This is Fronie on the left  and her mom (my gramma) Lizzie Hesch.  The kid on the ladder was probably Charlie and Elizabeth's adopted son William, who would have been 5 that summer.  (Yay! This is more than my mom OR dad knew about this picture ☺)
