This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

Did Mohimonts cross the pond?

Ahhh, old newspapers ARE a goldmine!  We found a few references to an Alfred Mohimont, who got into a bit of trouble in New York at the turn of the last century.  Evidently, he married in 1904 and again in 1905...to different women.  He'd committed his first wife on their wedding night because she "became insane", and tried to throw herself from a third story window....

Now, we don't KNOW that this man was related to Grandma Elizabeth Sand (Hesch)'s grandmother Angelique Mohimont, but the name is fairly unusual, and the time-frame is right.
By the way, the article  under the cartoon basically says the same thing as the clearer article (right).

(left) This was also from November 1905. It made a sensational story, and that sold newspapers then as well as now.
