This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

Oh, MAN...I love computer photo programs...

(....if ONLY they could keep me from making mistakes!)

  This, below, is WRONG

Looks to me like the Mueller brothers purchased John Schmolke's store between 1908 and 1917, and also like the real crest of the hill there is/was on the corner, as shown in the left pic above. (You'd turn there to go to the Creamery).
Nope...it was just a popular store design then.  Mueller's store / saloon was actually on the WEST side of the road, about where Britz's house is now.  I heard from someone who's been researching Buckman for years, (tho he doesn't want to be named).  The white fence connects John Schmolkes house with the store John Jr ran with Peter Blake.  The bump-out on this side of the store was the post office.

We've learned so MUCH about Buckman c. 1920 in the past 3 days--but, that'll be revealed in other posts.
THANKS for the info, Anon!

Whew!  I'll finally be able to sleep tonight......again...lol
