This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

The Domain of Better Farms

Boosterism in Morrison County in 1925 took the form of this booklet, published online at Minnesota Reflections.  It's fun to look thru and see what was claimed and compare it to what we know.

It seems like the sort of booklet you might pick up at the state fair, or if you wrote to St Paul for information about possible farming opportunities in Minnesota.  There's nothing negative in it, of course, and quite a bit of hyperbole ☺.  The cool thing, tho, is their lists of businesses in each town.  Here's Buckman, Pierz, Royalton and Little Rock:
(I think the "public school" was on the west end of town.  Pretty sure I've seen a plat map with a schoolhouse there...Anon?)

Naturally, most of the booklet centers around Little Falls:

And, wow--look at the original name of Pine Grove Park !
