This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

Regarding the next post

It's cool how many families I recognize from early St Cloud.  It's fun to run down the list and note what businesses they started in, and how many were grandparents of kids we knew in the 1960s....and also, how many either moved on, or didn't survive in the cut throat world of "some 3,000 inhabitants",  in 1880 St Cloud, Minnesota.

(BTW, I'm sorry I can't get those pieces all the SAME size, in better order, closer together, but blogger is just not working properly lately--argh!)
