This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

OMG, Buckman in the 70s

Larry found this postcard on Ancestry.com and saved it for me, thinking it was probably taken in the 1950s, but no...when we expanded it to full screen size, I think the sign on the store is the one we had painted there...see? right below the left side of the water tower...
I'd forgotten that Brandls had that Plymouth sign and that the water tower was so close to Brandl's building.  On the right, below, you can see the Grain Belt sign hanging outside the original Sev's Bar--it's the same building where John and Ket Heschs store was.
Wow.
