This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

"You're still not skeptical enough"

Wow, do we ever have a great historical story for you!  It involves Ho-Chunk Indians, central Minnesota, Patagonia, the Civil War era Know Nothing party, Italians, newspapers, and Brazil, among other things.  There's deceit, the government and a married priest, and MYSTERY.
Woohoo.

First, lets begin with Patagonia. No, not the outdoor gear company, but the area of South America called Patagonia.

That would be Patagonia ►
☺

And ◄ Long Prairie, Minnesota--also integral to this story.  Not to mention St Cloud, in 1892.

And since we're posting maps, the Green Bay area of Wisconsin is involved, as well as the eastern portion of Kansas.

( Green Bay was the romantic high point of our story, and Menasha, Wisconsin (see it there?) was also mentioned in our research, so it's cool to realize where those towns are...)

Now KANSAS on the other hand--the town of Manhattan--is a big part of the story, and it gets even MORE exciting, promise!

Oh, and even THIS is part of the story...
...to be posted tomorrow!
