This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

A little more Lake George

This post is definitely for readers who know St Cloud, Minnesota.

Today, a client wanted to go visit Lake George--HONEST, with almost no prompting from me.  Really.
(Besides, as Larry mentioned, photos taken in the fall are especially lovely--I couldn't pass that up, could I?).

The area's been revamped again in the last year, to make the Tech HS area (west of Lake George) and the 9th Ave underpass (east of the lake) more efficient.

Neither of us had really looked at the improvements around Lake George--we've just driven past.  But wow!  Remember the road all the way around the lake?   September 1888 - The City Council orders the street commissioner to construct a boulevard around Lake George. After numerous delays, the project is completed in the early 1900s.  Well, that's pretty much gone in favor of walking paths, observation decks, and natural habitat.  The area is actually beautiful, especially on the west shore, where we found this lovely sculpture in honor of the swans that used to grace Lake George.  It stands about where their shelter used to be, when we were kids.
