This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

40 year old Biographies

One of the cool things about the "Pictorial Atlas of Morrison County, Minnesota" books was that they included short bios of each family, whether they submitted photos or not.  There are current plat maps in the first pages of each book, too, and maybe the whole idea of an atlas stemmed from those, since each bio starts with a description of the land the family lived on.  The bios seem to have been hastily assembled without benefit of much fact checking, but it's obvious some families gave them particulars.
The legend says MI means Miscellaneous Information, which sometimes meant historical info.  Who knew that C.B. Buckman jumped claims??
