Sr Laura's grave update

This surprising letter was in my email today:
Dear Marlys ,
Last April I talked to you about our desire to move the remains of Sister Laura to our cemetery at St. Benedict’s Monastery.  Since that time we have continued to meet and listen to members of the Tribe, Father Jerry the pastor and members of the Parish.  Having heard the reflections of these persons, the decision has been made to leave Sister Laura Hesch’s remains in the cemetery at Little Flower Parish, Vineland, Minnesota.

We do this having heard the commitment being made by Father Jerry and the parishioners to take responsibility for caring for Sister’s gravesite and for erecting a cross in the cemetery. Any other enhancements of the cemetery that were mentioned would be supported.  Our greatest concern however, is the care of Sister’s grave and the presence of a cross.

The conversation was touching as parishioners who knew Sister Laura and those who have been influenced by her life told their stories. It was important for Sister Theodora, who was Sister Laura’s dear friend and who served the parish with Sister Laura, to tell the story that she was called at the last minute and told to find someone to dig the grave for Sister’s burial.  The plan clearly was to bury Sister Laura in the cemetery at Saint Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph, Minnesota.  A petition from some at Little Flower Parish was presented to Mother Henrietta Osendorf, Prioress of Saint Benedict’s Monastery and permission was given to bury Sister Laura at Little Flower Parish.

We appreciate your support for our plan to move her and thank you for working with us.

Peace,
 Sister Kara Hennes
