This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

The Fabulous Hodorf Farm

The Pierz Journal rarely had photos or illustrations on the front page, even when I was a kid, so why this farm was featured I don't know.  There was no accompanying article, either, but maybe it was a lost bet that included the fancy-schmancy decorations on either side, too--who knows?
Anyway, here's the family I think it was, only cuz dad mentioned Gust Hodoroff as a character in Buckman.  If I'm wrong, let me know in the comments, ok?

  1. That's it?!? I pratically lay awake at night trying to figure out how Goodie Hodorf fits into the big Buckman picture. I read this post and think that finally - FINALLY - I'll get the definitive answer so that I can get some sleep. And then there's no mention of her. I'm disappointed. Crushed. I'm just saying - the thought of taking my Buckman geneology blog reading somewhere else crossed my mind but I'll give you another chance only because I like you and because you have such a lovely just-younger-than-you sister.

    Love - PT
