This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

The St Cloud Journal Newspaper

....Select bits from 1866, 1874 & 1875

Remember a few pages ago, I mentioned that the St Cloud Journal was the successor to Jane Grey Swisshelm's "Visiter" newspaper?  Well, here're a few interesting articles from the Journal--partly to illustrate the we-can-do-ANYTHING mood of the times--like this first article--and partly as a reminder of day to day stuff they dealt with--like the runaway horses on St Germain Street.  If you're from St Cloud or the area, you'll recognize names like Herberger and Metzroth.
Some of this is just plain cool, and one is very sad.
