This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

This time of year

I remember dad talking about the fall of the year, when a crew of neighborhood men went from one farm to another, harvesting, till it was all done.  I can't imagine the work it took...but he said each guy did his job like a well oiled machine, and every farm provided wonderful meals for the crews.  That alone would have interested Curly!
These photos came from the Morrison County Atlas books, of course, but HERE'S a website with lots of great info, including how a threshing machine worked.
I think these men were pretty proud of their work.
