This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

News from September 1889

Probably from the St Cloud Journal:

Little Falls Transcript, Sept 11:  Last Friday evening, Leon Houde attempted to come home from the St Paul and Minneapolis fairs, but was sound asleep when the train reached Little Falls, and went on as far as Brainerd.  The next morning he took the freight train for home, but was again sound asleep when the train reached Little Falls, and he went as far as Royalton before waking.  He then got off the train thoroughly disgusted, and came home by private conveyance.

  1. Randomly came across your blog here while googling my name! I am a Hesch and our family has a long history in the Chicago area! I hope I can find time this summer to read a bit more on all your information here... very interesting! Thank you for making this blog!

  2. You're welcome! If you're on Facebook, theres a group called "Hesch Club" made up of lots of Canadian and European Heschs.
I think the Chicago line of Heschs are descended from the German family that settled in Mildmay, Ontario.
My branch came directly to Wisconsin and Minnesota from Bohemia.
You're welcome to read all you want here--maybe we'll discover a Bohemian auswanderer who went to Chicago after all ☺!
