This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

A Chronology of Buckman

Yesterday, Larry said he found a pic of Buckman that he thought we'd seen before, but he wasn't sure:
Ha. We had seen it before, in the form of a faded
postcard with a huge crease across the sky.  It was a copy of a 1911 copy, evidently, because not much was distinct.  But THIS one is large AND clear.  There are two Kiewel Brewery signs, and you can see them both if you click the pic and enlarge it.
Also, you can see parts of these businesses...
Mischke's Hardware is above on the right side, just past the people standing in front of the saloon.

A little Schmolkes store on the left, and the white fence in front of the house, crest of the hill...see?
...You can see a couple of these houses (below) in reverse, also on the left.

This photo of Muellers Hardware and Saloon is from about 1917, so they'd spiffed it up alot by then.  See the new concrete sidewalks?

We think this photo below was about 1916, because of the sharp looking sidewalks, and because Brandls Garage is being built just beyond Zenner's store.
