This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

Posters Sawmill

It's a good thing one of us bothers to keep an eye on ebay for anything linked to Buckman/Pierz/Morrison Co.  For instance, look what's for sale right now for only $29.99 plus $2.00 shipping:

This was the Poster Sawmill on Buckman Creek, north of town near that dip in the road (the link shows the area this year, 2015!).  I know, there's not much water flowing there, but where else could it have been?  This card was sent in 1912, so the pic was taken before that.  It's interesting to follow the creek west all the way to Mud Lake and Skunk Lake, near Vawter.  (Looks like they're the headwaters of the Platte River).  The creek seems to start in the swamps about 5 miles east of Buckman...at least, the stream no longer has a name on the map as you go east.  Take a look ☺.
THANKS, LARRY!
