This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

Buffalo in Buckman

I think this Frank Otremba was born in 1860. If so, he was the son of Johann and Anna Rosina (Hesch) Otremba. I have six Frank Otrembas on my tree, and "Buffalo" Frank could be two of them. I'm thinking it's this one because he would have been 49 in 1909--old enough to be a 'prosperous' farmer. We don't know what his neighbors thought.
Evidently, he was a visionary, with the cash to back up his theory--why NOT try to cross cattle with Buffalo?
