This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

John Hesch, Jr. (Johnny Boy) 1916-1979

Remember this face from the Hesch/Gottwalt photo? It's John and Ket Heschs' youngest son John, but everyone called him "Johnny Boy", even after he was Johnny Man.

I remember dad mentioning Johnny Boy Hesch in some obscure way, like "I talked to Johnny Boy when I was up home. He's good."

Ah, we owe genealogical debt to the armed services--otherwise, we wouldn't have either of these records of him. (Thanks to Ancestry.com and good ol' NELSONS).

Johnny Boy survived the war, and in August 1947, he married Alice Jansen. He was 31, with more forehead now, just like MY son...lol
He might have been known as John II since his first son was John, also. Did THAT kid go by John III?
(Take a guess on WHO provided these great photos...lol)

  1. Hello! My name is Cathy Hesch. Catherine Marie Hesch to be exact. I was always told that I was named after a woman named Ket... I was searching for some family history and I stumbled upon this. That's my grandpa and my grandma! I loved them both so very much and miss them.

  2. YAY, Cathy! Do you live near central Minnesota? Can you come to the reunion on August 8th? You were definitely named after your great grandma (my dad knew her as Aunt Ket and everyone in Buckman knew her as a great friend)!
E-mail me and I'll put you in touch with some of your relatives!
