This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

Another Terhaar!

One of Larry's many gifts is tenacity, and curiosity--ok, that's two gifts ☺.  He's also thrilled with another name to investigate, so when we looked for connections to John Terhaar (worked in the bank in Buckman in 1920-30, then the Rice bank from 1931), he found other mentions of the name, specifically in LIFE MAGAZINE in May, 1947...a Ferdinand H. Terhaar, living in Los Angeles, California, attending a WILD party.....

Was this man related to John?

Turns out, he was.  In fact, they were brothers, two of 14 children (11 surviving), born to Bernard Gerhard Terhaar and Maria (Dahmen) Terhaar in Pierz.  Ferdinand was 6 and John was 9 in the 1900 census.

Ferdinand was born in Pierz in August, 1893 and died in April, 1979.  He held a patent for a respirator , and evidently lived most of his life in California.

Isn't the internet WONDERFUL?
Isn't Larry a godsend??
