This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

Anna Sand (Sr Teresita, OSB) 1891-1966

Gramma Hesch (Elizabeth Sand) had 4 brothers and five sisters.  This photo from the early 1960s shows two of them: Anna and Mary (with  Gramma and Fr Sylvester Lewans, who was visiting from Saskatchewan, Canada. He was their brother Joe's grandson, so their great nephew).

Both nuns were kind and soft-spoken, both smiled easily, but Sr Teresita (Anna) was a little more fun.  She was, for one thing,  more kid-sized, and for another, she always seemed about to loose her veil to the wind.  Her wimple was often crooked or pulling apart somehow.  This tickled me like crazy...lol  She had mischief in her eyes and was probably one of the first adults I knew who didn't take herself too seriously.  (Until I met her and Aunt Millie, I just assumed I'd hit a certain age and turn serious...whew).
The photo on her funeral card was a pretty good indicator of her attitude!

Thanks to Charlie's grandaughter Katheryn for the card ☺
