This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

Three Questions

Yes, these cast iron bugs are strange looking, but it's cuz they were/are used for something unrelated to insect life, so question #1 is
What are they used for?

This charming, slender kid is me at 11 (and yes, I thought that purse was WAY COOL).  We were at a zoo, but it wasn't Little Falls or Duluth.  (I know, only the sibs might be able to answer this one--just look DEEP into the deer's eye.....deeper.....
Question #2 is
Where were we on that particular vacation?
And this is Question #3--Which cousin is this?
(Doncha just LOVE these quizzes?)

  2. Being a nicey and naturally inclined to favor my childhood roommate, I'd certainly give you 3X the points if even ONE of those answers was correct.

  4. Boot jack (step on the back of the cricket with one foot then stick the heel of the boot on the other foot into the feelers and lever it off. Try not to tip over.)

Was that AkSarBen? Where is that?

    Jerry? Susan?

You can send my winnings to the usual place -

  5. ONE correct answer outta 11 tries...hmm. You're not really LOOKING at that baby, who'd be in his 60s now (See? 2 hints, right there!)
The other animal that impressed us on that trip was the first St Bernard we ever saw...geeze! I'm practically giving it away....
    lol

  6. Oh, and yeah--what was AkSarBen?? I know it's Nebraska spelled backwards, but what did that have to do with us?
I think it might have been on Bay Lake, where Carol and Dave Harris lived...it might have been a resort there in Deerwood:

  8. Dear Pretender-to-the-Throne:
Nuh-ah! You got boot jacks and Tommy right (WOW!) but AkSarBen? Nope. Bay Lake is miles and miles from where we went that summer.
When I give you the answer, you'll spit...cuz YOU went there later again.
    ........................
BTW, I'm giving you great hints cuz it'll take you two a month to figger it out by yourselves.
    (C'mon--the FIRST St Bernard!)

  9. Let me point out that I got boot jacks right. I'm the sibling who is secure enough that I would have no need to invent a title like "Obscure Unanswerable Question Queen" - particularly if I totally missed the fact that we saw our first St. Bernard in Canada. Granted, only about five miles over the border, but Canada nonetheless. And that baby is sooo Tommy.

So... three out of three makes ME the reigning Queen of Highly Relevant Things, I believe.

Love to youse all - Queen PhishAnne the First

  10. So, Queenie--what took ya so long if you knew the CORRECT answers all along? LOL
Five miles into Canada--and the park was called____? Oh hell, I'll GIVE you this one: Pigeon River Provincial Park.

(I still wonder WHY were we so hesitant to stay in a foreign country for more than 2 hours??)

YES, you won. But since we all hadta work so HARD for the answers, you only get 3X the usual reward.
Just don't expect it every time.

  11. I belive Tommy Hesch was my input, and not the Phish's, and Ancestry Queen should award the prize to me, as I did no answer 'borrowing' like Highly Relevant Question Queen. Glad the prize can be tripled easily, as I so deserve it. Pfoof

  12. LOL...this mediating between you two feels SO 7th grade--sheesh! From now on, you can't be ANONYMOUS if you want in on one of our FUN contests. The potential prize is so awesome that there can't be a question of WHO cheated most.
You'll need to identify yourself or your answer is fair game for the other contestant...Sigh!

  13. And now, I have to do ANOTHER comment so it doesn't stay at 13 comments--that'll bug me no end.
I'm officially retracting the 3X award--you each get 1.5, plus I'm not sending em--you'll have to pick them up.
    See? I can get rough.
    LOL

  14. OOOOOOOOOOOOOO, I am so scared of your version of 'rough!(not). I will have to rent a truck to haul home the winnings, but maybe I can get the prize for first pick-up, at least. Will 15 comments bug you?

  15. (clears throat)...PhishAnne here. I may have affirmed the younger schwester's total guess about the baby cousin but I got the other two parts ALL ON MY OWN. I believe that entitles me to 2/3 of the prize winnings, not half. I am only saying this NOT because I am competetive like some people (who shall remain nameless, Phoophayne) but because I want the spare the younger schwester the expense of renting a truck to pick up half the winnings when she is legally entitled to only a third of the winnings. Maybe she could just rent a Schwinn. Come to think of it, based on the payouts from previous contests, she could just rent a virtual Schwinn if you know what I mean.

Love youse all - and Happy Thanksgiving!
