This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

A bit more about Sr Laura

A few relatives have mentioned that they know Sr Laura Hesch is buried "in Onamia", but no one knows exactly where.  I said I'd post pictures of her monument that's in the little St Theresa's Cemetery behind the church at the mission.   (BTW, the right-hand side of the table (second red granite diamond) is dedicated to a priest whose name I didn't recognize).
 Here they are.

"In memory of the first nun
Sr Laura Hesch, O.S.B.
to live here with the
Anishinabe
1941-1972"
