This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

"Born in a new house" (1898)

One way to fish for genealogical links is to 'search within' a likely website online...for instance, the school newspaper archives at St Johns.  We were surprised to find 2-3 Hesch students there in turn-of-the-century Collegeville, Minnesota.
Of course there were other kids from Morrison county who attended St Johns, and searching "Buckman" scored a few mentions of a young man named August Kapsner.  (Larry found this paragraph ages ago, so I'm not sure which issue it came from.  It was probably 1918 or so, tho).  He sounds like a live wire ☺

BTW, the earliest Kapsner mentioned in the paper there was Joseph Kapsner, in 1888, probably from Buckman, too.
