I think this chart, published in The Atlantic Magazine, is mis-titled--it should be "How Quickly New Technology Became Necessities" in the US, since 1900.
When I first saw it (thanks to you-know-who), I checked our own family's record against the chart: I think we "always had" the first six items because I don't remember being without them, even as a kid. How about your family?
