This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

Our Virtual Morrison County

An unexpected perk of doing genealogical discovery online and on a blog is that Larry and I find our virtual town expanding--the people we "know" in Pierz and Buckman increases with almost every page of the (newly online) Pierz Journal newspaper.  Especially those names we recognize from pictures  found in the Morrison County Pictorial Atlases...like this--

Now, sure, these aren't the same Dahmen guy, since the pic was taken 30 years  after the article appeared, but wouldn't you guess they were related?
In the 1900 Federal Census, widower Joseph Dahmen, 35, lived in Pierz township with his five children and his widowed mom.  By 1911, he was 46 and old enough to know better with horses but young enough to be teased mercilessly about it.  I assume Erhart Dahmen was a nephew maybe.  If you know, email me, and I'll add the info, ok?
