This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

The Stepans and Dengels from Buckman

A quick review of the Dengel links so far on HH (and doesn't THAT sound impressive?)  We first encountered FRANCES DENGEL thru Sue, who is Aggie Suess's granddaughter.  AGGIE was John Hesch's daud and Frances' close friend.
Since Larry and I recognized the name now, we noticed "Dengels" in the Pierz Journal when Math mentioned them, most often because someone bought a large implement from DENGELS dealership in Buckman.
And, we knew MUELLERS, because Ket Mueller was John Hesch's wife.

Click the links there--it really does make sense, honest.

This morning, I got another email from Chris (see the 'Ferdie's letter' post, below) with some WONDERFUL old photos to share here, as well as a new connection for me (--a person in another picture IDd for sure ☺. YAY x 2!)  But first, the Stepan and Dengel pics Chris sent:

Marie and Albert Stepan with their first
three kids: L to R:  Larry, Ozzie & Ferdie.
This young family pic had to be from 1924--
Grandpa Lorenz was living with Albert & Marie,  and she's holding
the new baby, Lawrence, or else a sack of flour.
Lorenz and Barbara Stepan, possibly around 1900,
in Germany.  (They emigrated in 1907).

These two photos are the Albert Stepan family
in the 40s. The formal one is labeled "1943" and I think they were both taken because Larry was home from the Navy.

The Minnesota Marriages list says Nick Mueller married Lena Dengel on June 18, 1907 so this portrait is Nick and Lena on their
55th wedding anniversary in 1962 ☺

Ok, we don't want photo overload, so I'll stop here.  Not to worry, I'll post corrections and more pics tomorrow, as well as WHO Nick and Lena were, promise.
I know.  This is almost too exciting, but you'll live.
