This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

The devil went down to...Hutchinson?

Larry found this charming article that was shared with the Little Falls paper on March 3, 1922.  (An exchange, btw, was the practice of newspapers sharing their copy with other newspapers) about a barn dance in Hutchinson, Mn, where Satan himself stopped by to frighten dancers.  It was 1922, 3 years into Prohibition, so you know there was not one drop of liquor imbibed by the God-fearing participants, right?

So, of course, I went to find the original story on the Library of Congress website (Chronicling America) to see more ☺.  Must have been a slow news month because the story grew legs, and by April 19th, someone asked an actual Methodist Minister about it.  Way to kill a good story, Rev!

THANKS, LARRY ☺
