"So Far, So Good", the story of Sr Laura Hesch, OSB
Remember last March when we said we'd keep you informed about a book that was being written about Grandpa's older sister, Theresa? Well, here it is, with her chalk paintings on the front and back covers, quotes from Uncle Tony, Laura Alkhofer, Irene Kulig and Louise Desautel, lots of pictures and a narrative about her life told in story form by Sr Owen Lindblad, OSB. It's an easy read that'll make you smile. Copies are 12.99 and can be ordered from:Studium,

Hey, thanks for the copy of the Sr. Laura book! I really enjoyed it and it fleshed out lots of vague memories. I remember going in to see a mountain of used clothes, and wondering what that was all about. It was in the gym building, and she was very proud of it. Looked like a massive undertaking to run that place, and indeed it was. I was proud to be related to her, even if I turned down the opportunity to "look good in a coif" and become a nun. She was funny, and I remember Dad always said he had to "haul Sr. Laura to Onamia." He looked forward to it.
ReplyDeleteI remember that Quonset absolutely heaped with random clothes. Maybe by the time we saw it, the kids no longer wanted to play basketball in the gym, cuz they had the new community center (where the casino is now). That gym is what I think of every time I smell mothballs...lol
