This branch of the Austrian Hesch family is descended from Johann Hesch and his wife Marya (Schlinz) Hesch, who came to America from Oberschlagles, Bohemia with three sons: Paul, Mathias, and Anton. +++Johann & Marya settled in Buffalo County, Wisconsin but moved to Pierz, Mn in about 1885. .+++Mathias settled in Waumandee, Wisconsin and moved to Pierz in 1911. +++Anton never married but farmed with his dad in Agram Township, where he died in 1911.+++And Paul, my great grandfather, settled five miles away, in Buckman, Minnesota. He died there in 1900.

Christian Mothers

A client and I were chatting about making friends 'years ago' when she was a young mom.  She said neighbors were important, but that she made the most connections in Christian Mothers, the work-horses of the parish.  They did the Bazaar, cleaning the church (washing/ironing the communion rail *cloth), organizing school trips, financing new equipment, making new vestments--it was all on the capable shoulders  of the Christian Mothers.

I don't think I know any of these women, but the pic was too cool to ignore. Usually, you didn't have to be a mom to join.    Are any of them YOUR mother?
*  Extra credit:  "...a Communion cloth (alternatively called a "domenical," a "manutergium," a "houseling cloth" or a "communion veil") was employed to catch the Host if dropped by the priest, and in some cases to keep the communicant's bare hand from touching the Host".

Extra credit X2--Whatdya call the little gold tray with a handle that the altar boy held under your chin?
